Public Art in Ipswich

In the late 1990’s the Ipswich Sculpture Trail guide was published by Ipswich Borough Council which contained details of thirteen artworks around the town some old, some new, by nine different artists.

In the last ten years many new public artworks have been commissioned along side the new building developments
in Ipswich. The waterfront regeneration has brought us a small collection of new artworks, as well as the Ravenswood development further out of town. Community art projects have also left us with a permanent record of the creativity that took place.

This survey of the art to be found in Ipswich contains a mixture of old and new and will be updated as new works are realised. Hopefully this guide will help you look again at sights and places you may have once missed. You may be pleasantly surprised at the quantity of artwork to be found in public places around the town.

The artworks have been listed alphabetically by the artists name and more information can be found on each artwork. We are keen to keep this survey up to date so if you have any information about artworks in Ipswich which we do not have, do get in touch!

A Wolsey Artwork for Ipswich
A £100,000 campaign is being launched to honour Ipswich's most famous son, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey.
The public appeal, led by historian John Blatchly, will commission and construct an artwork in tribute to Henry VIII's great Lord Chancellor. This year is the 500th anniversary of Wolsey's rise to power.
