Edmund Goubert

Fugitive Pieces

28 June – 2 August 2008

Edmund Goubert, winner of the Ip-art Award for visual Art 2007, developed an ambitious project, Fugitive Pieces, for display at the Town Hall Galleries during summer 2008.

Goubert used Ipswich as both text and context (backdrop) for the production and display of site-specific paintings. Drawing on a range of locations selected for their geographical and architectural significance - public, private, commercial and historic etc - he produced a series of works that cross-/quote physical and imagined referents, (that which can be seen and that which can be felt), manipulating medium, message and context to exploit ambiguities inherent in the structure of their form and presentation.

A catalogue with commissioned text and an ‘open map’ of GPS coordinates for each site also accompanied the show.
